Settle Into Rest program

An online yoga therapy program for PTSD-related insomnia and sleep disturbance.

The next group series begins 27 July 2026.

Settle Into Rest is an eight-week online Trauma-Sensitive Yoga program designed to support those experiencing PTSD-related sleep disturbance, hyperarousal, and insomnia.

Trauma can leave the nervous system in a prolonged state of alertness, making it difficult to settle, unwind, or feel safe enough to rest. Sleep may become disrupted by hypervigilance, racing thoughts, nightmares, or a persistent sense of activation within the body.

This program integrates Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY), yoga therapy, breathing practices, and trauma-informed relaxation techniques to gently support nervous system regulation and cultivate conditions for rest.

Through consistent and predictable practices, participants are invited to develop greater awareness of their nervous system, reconnect with internal cues of safety, and strengthen their capacity to move toward rest and restoration.

After a lifetime of extremely poor sleeping I finally see some steady improvement.

What the program includes:

Each weekly session includes:

  • gentle floor-based yoga therapy forms

  • grounding and nervous system regulation practices

  • trauma-informed breathing and relaxation

  • bilateral tapping and body-based resourcing

  • guided resourcing practices for settling and rest

Participants are supported to cultivate an inner sense of safety and develop practical tools for navigating activation, overwhelm, and difficulty sleeping.

Over the 8 weeks, the program gradually builds interoceptive awareness through predictable and choice-based practices designed to support nervous system regulation and parasympathetic activation.

Audio or video recordings will be available to support home practice between sessions.

Why Body-Based Practices for Sleep?

Trauma theorists including Bessel van der Kolk, Peter Levine, and Judith Herman have highlighted the importance of body-oriented approaches in trauma recovery.

When trauma impacts the nervous system, rest can become difficult because it has learned to remain alert in order to survive.

Body-based practices can help gently retrain the nervous system toward safety, regulation, and rest.

Participant Feedback

  • “Jen does an amazing job at guiding you to connect in with yourself, which allowed me to feel calm and safe throughout the entire season”.

  • “felt a sense of calm and safety in my body during and after the sessions - quite possibly for the first time - and am now able to practice on my own to achieve the same sense of safety and calm”

  • “After a lifetime of extremely poor sleeping I finally see some steady improvement”.

  • “I have found the yoga sessions so helpful - at the start I often fell asleep or got distracted during class but now I am regularly experiencing deep rest for the first time in a long time. I’ve also been regularly doing a little of the movement practice we’ve learned prior to going to bed”.

  • “general wellbeing is very much improved. I am feeling deep rest during and after the classes - the first few classes I could hardly relax! I have never stuck with a yoga class before this one.”

  • “My sleep has improved greatly and I am able to unwind and switch my mind off before heading to sleep much easier!”

  • “By understanding the feeling of what deep relaxation/rest is in my body (while awake) actually feels like has been a revelation :) I had not ever experienced the feeling of moving my body WITH the breath and feeling my mind settle in response in quite the same way”

  • The classes interrupted dissociation patterns and allowed me to be more present and relaxed before bed

  • I’m now able to feel more naturally tired at an appropriate time rather than numbing to the point of exhaustion. Also making more of a conscious effort to get into a relaxed state before bed as I've learned that it's attainable throughout the course”.

  • Overall my sleep is hugely improved.

Less night terrors, sleep talking and restless sleep. Feeling more rested when waking up.
